In 2015, in response to Cyclone Chapala, which impacted Yemen, Norway provided ICT support through the International Humanitarian Partnership (IHP) framework to the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team. This deployment was part of a broader effort to improve communication and coordination in a region where infrastructure was heavily damaged by the cyclone. The IHP ICT support team’s role was to establish reliable communication systems, helping the UNDAC team facilitate the flow of information between humanitarian actors, local authorities, and international organizations involved in the disaster response.

This deployment underscored the importance of ICT in emergency operations, particularly in complex and challenging environments like Yemen, where communication networks were compromised by the cyclone’s destruction. The ICT team’s timely intervention was essential for ensuring that the UNDAC team could continue its mission of assessing the damage and coordinating relief efforts effectively.

Other missions

Lebanon War

During the 2006 Lebanon War, the International Humanitarian Partnership (IHP) provided vital logistics support to the World Food Programme (WFP). IHP deployed experts to assist in coordinating and streamlining the delivery of humanitarian aid amidst complex and rapidly changing conditions.

Bihar Floods

During the 2008 Bihar floods in Nepal, Sweden, as part of IHP, provided ICT support to UNDAC. The deployment included satellite phones, laptops, and internet connectivity, enabling efficient coordination and communication in flood-affected areas. This critical support facilitated rapid needs assessments and streamlined relief efforts.

TRIPLEX 2006

In September 2006, the TRIPLEX exercise was held in Finland's Satakunta region, centered around the cities of Pori and Kankaanpää. Organized by the International Humanitarian Partnership (IHP), the simulation featured a large-scale natural disaster scenario, bringing together humanitarian actors, UN agencies, and EU Civil Protection teams. Participants engaged in critical tasks such as disaster assessments, coordination, and logistics support, while testing IHP's deployment capacities, including base camp services and communication systems. TRIPLEX 2006 provided a realistic and challenging training environment, fostering collaboration and enhancing the preparedness of international humanitarian teams for future emergencies.
