Other missions

Malawi Floods

In January 2015, Malawi experienced devastating flooding that affected over 1 million people, displaced more than 336,000, and resulted in 100 fatalities. The floods caused widespread damage to crops, livestock, and infrastructure. In response to a request from the Malawian government, an UNDAC (UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination) team was deployed by UN OCHA to assess the situation and provide guidance.

Sumatra Earthquake

In response to the devastating 2009 Sumatra earthquake, IHP supported UNDAC and OCHA by deploying ICT modules to restore communication networks and a base camp to house relief workers. The ICT setup, including satellite phones and internet access, enabled efficient coordination, while the base camp provided essential facilities for responders.

Jonglei Lifeline

Escalating violence, coupled with recurring natural disasters, led to the displacement of over 1 million people and left more than 4 million in need of urgent assistance. Jonglei State, one of the hardest-hit regions, posed significant challenges to humanitarian operations due to ongoing conflict and severe flooding during the rainy season.
